On 27 September 2017, the Swiss Parliament elected Stefan Kohler to the position of associate judge at the Swiss Federal Patent Court. The Patent Court in St. Gallen is the Swiss special court of first instance for civil-law disputes concerning patents and patent licenses. The Patent Court consists of two permanent judges and a number of associate (part-time) judges, all of whom are trained in legal or technical matters.

Stefan Kohler joined VISCHER in 2005 and is the head of VISCHER's Intellectual Property Group and the co-head of VISCHER's Life Sciences Group. He studied science at the ETH in Zurich (dipl. sc. nat. ETH) and law at the University of St. Gallen (Dr. iur.). Stefan Kohler is a lecturer at the University of St.Gallen and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property and has published on a wide range of intellectual property and life sciences law topics. He has extensive experience in IP/technology-related litigation and arbitration, in particular in patent and licensing matters. He also advises companies on regulatory matters in the life sciences and represents companies in administrative proceedings, including proceedings before the administrative Tribunal.

Our law firm congratulates Stefan Kohler on his election. We are delighted that he will be able to bring his extensive experience in patent law to bear as an associate judge at the Swiss Federal Patent Court.
