Angelina Rau

Angelina Rau is a lawyer specializing in advising companies in regulated markets such as pharmaceuticals, medical technology, biotechnology, healthcare and chemicals. She represents Swiss and foreign companies before Swiss civil and administrative courts, arbitration tribunals and administrative authorities.

Her core areas of expertise include pharmaceutical law, human research law, health insurance law, and patent law. She advises pharmaceutical and medtech companies along the entire value chain, with a particular focus on market access as well as regulatory and commercial challenges at various stages of the product life cycle. She completed an interdisciplinary doctoral program (medical and legal faculties) at the University of Zurich, with an integrative research focus on medical, biomedical, and health law, as well as biomedical ethics (Ph.D. in Biomedical Law and Ethics), and she wrote her dissertation on innovative combination products. Currently, she is pursuing a part-time Master's degree in drug development at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Basel.

During a secondment at a leading international pharmaceutical company, she worked as Legal Counsel for the launch of a blockbuster drug in Switzerland. Prior to that, she served as interim CEO of the largest Swiss umbrella organization for promoting innovation in healthcare, where she supported startups with access to market access expertise throughout their product cycle.

Prior to her secondary education as a lawyer, she gained several years of professional experience in the industry (international commodity trading, international production and trading company white goods, chemicals). Her business background complements her ability to understand economic legal issues. With her profound understanding of interdisciplinary connections and her passion for life sciences and technical-scientific matters, she provides her clients with effective and practical solutions.

Additionally, she engages as a mentor for startups, regularly gives lectures, and publishes in her research and professional fields. She also has experience as editor-in-chief and publisher of specialized journals, board member of associations and foundations, and as founder and managing director of a social entrepreneurship company (FMCG) and a service company.
