Thomas Gelzer begann seine Karriere als Rechtsanwalt und Notar im Jahr 1986. Er ist Partner des Streitbeilegungsteams von VISCHER und befasst sich hauptsächlich mit der Prozessführung vor schweizerischen und internationalen Gerichten. Er vertritt schweizerische und internationale Klienten in wirtschaftlichen Streitigkeiten, hauptsächlich in den Bereichen Vertragsrecht, Versicherungsrecht, Produkthaftungsrecht und Immaterialgüterrecht. Thomas Gelzer präsidiert zudem die Josef und Olga Tomcsik Stiftung, Basel, und ist Mitglied des Verwaltungsrats der Theatergenossenschaft Basel (Theater Basel, www.theater-basel.ch).
