Thomas Gelzer started his career as an attorney and a civil law notary in 1986. He is the head of the dispute resolution team of VISCHER and is mainly focusing on litigation before Swiss and international courts. He represents Swiss domestic and international clients in commercial disputes, mainly in the area of contract law, insurance law, product liability law and intellectual property right issues. In addition to his activities as an attorney, Thomas Gelzer is a member of various boards of directors of medium sized companies as well as of Swiss subsidiaries of international companies. Matthias Staehelin is primarily involved in transactions in the life sciences and IT industries; he regularly advises on the sale and purchase of companies (M&A), financing through investors (private equity and venture capital), licensing and collaboration agreements (including joint ventures), introductions to the stock exchange (IPOs) and restructuring. Matthias knows the life sciences industry well from many years of working with companies, investors and founders, and is the initiator of the Life Sciences Prize and a Board member of the BioValley Business Angels Club (BioBAC) and BioValley Basel. He publishes and gives lectures on corporate law, employee options, debt collection and bankruptcy. Matthias has studied in Halifax (Canada), Basel, Bruges (European College) and Freiburg i.B. Beatrice Wagner Pfeifer is titularprofessor of public law, in specialising environmental law, at the University of Basel. At VISCHER she is legal counsel both in an advising and forensic capacity on issues such as prior encumbrances, environmentally compatible examinations, water conservation requirements and chemicals. Beatrice is a board member of the Swiss Association of Environmental Law and Vice-President of the Federal Expropriations Commission responsible for the Canton of Basel-City. She wrote her habilitation thesis on genetically changed organisms and published a two volume textbook on environmental law. In addition she regularly publishes in technical magazines on environmental and expropriation law issues.
