Thomas Weibel, Associate

Thomas Weibel was born in 1972. He has worked for VISCHER in Basel since April 2001 as an associate. Thomas Weibel completed his undergraduate and doctoral studies in Basel and earned a masters degree in England.

Why did you become an attorney?

I like dealing with people and taking on responsibility. When choosing my course of study, I initially turned to medicine. But then I realized that law is the right choice for me, so I went for it – and I took the bar exam after completing my studies.

Why did you choose VISCHER as your employer?

I had done my summer internship at Gloor & Christ, one of the predecessor firms of VISCHER. I also did other traineeships in order to learn about various aspects of the legal profession: at an accounting and consulting firm, in the legal department of a company in the pharmaceuticals industry, and for a court. In the end I decided on a law firm because here I am very close to the client and can provide a service. I am motivated by the trust that my clients place in me, and every day I strive to live up to it. As an attorney you also get more feedback concerning your work than in other places, which I appreciate. So why VISCHER? Well, on the one hand of course, because I already knew from my summer internship that I was very comfortable with the stimulating and personable work climate at VISCHER and that I would have the opportunity to develop my expertise here. But also because VISCHER, as the biggest law firm in the Basel market, has very exciting, often international mandates to offer, which are rare in a smaller law firm.

It is said that business attorneys have no private life. Is that true?

No, at least not for me. Finding time for family, friends and hobbies despite the workload is very important to me. Of course, not every job, every mandate, can be planned out, far from it; in most cases a day unfolds in ways completely different from what one had imagined. But VISCHER considers it important for attorneys also to have a private live in addition to their careers. I am convinced that one can be a good attorney in the long run only if one strikes a balance between private life and work.

VISCHER in three words?

Personable, competent, dynamic.
