Daniela Frenkel, Trainee Attorney

Daniela Frenkel was born in 1983. Since April 2008, she has been working as a trainee attorney at VISCHER in Zurich and is thus preparing to take the bar exam. Before taking up her position at VISCHER, Ms Frenckel completed her legal studies at the University of Zurich and was a research assistant at the universities of Zurich and Luzern.  

Why did you choose to do your attorney training at VISCHER?

As a student, I had the opportunity to do a two-month summer internship at VISCHER and was thus able to get to know the firm. Because I am particularly interested in litigation and corporate law, as well as international legal issues, and because I liked the work environment here, I opted to complete my attorney training here as well.

What kinds of duties do you find yourself performing as a trainee attorney?

The files I work on are very diverse in nature. In addition to compiling literature and case-law surveys in order to clarify specific legal problems, we also work on internal memoranda and external legal opinions, as well as working on written submissions, participating in conference calls and meetings with clients. We also assist with publications and presentations.

Isn’t it the case that trainee attorneys are only asked to do tasks that the responsible attorney simply finds too boring?

As already mentioned, we are allowed to perform a diverse range of duties. Depending on the mandate and the responsible attorney, the degree of independence enjoyed varies somewhat, but as a rule, we are usually given unrestricted access to the case file and allowed to clarify some of the more interesting aspects of it.
